Our new Kariwa is a Nordhavn 64, built in 2006. We’ve owned her since February 2025 and recently completed some major updates to enhance her comfort and performance.
The salon still featured the original décor, which had been around for almost 20 years. We decided to give it a refresh—new cushions, fresh carpet, modern lamps, and we removed the old, worn-out curtains. Keeping it simple, we chose neutral colors that appeal to a wide range of tastes, giving the space a clean, updated look. The feedback we’ve received has been fantastic.
In the engine room, the original sea chest was condemned during the survey, so we replaced it with individual thru-hulls for each machine. This change made maintenance easier and safer. We also upgraded one of the 25kw generators to a new 20kw unit, overhauled the other, and performed a major service on the main engine—new injectors, coolant hoses, and hydraulic hoses. The wing engine underwent a full service, including injector replacement. We’ve replaced all fluids and filters across the board, leaving just a good scrub and polish to complete the engine room. Oh, and we had the entire boat detailed and waxed for that showroom shine.
Both dinghies have had their share of attention, too. The larger dinghy needed fiberglass repairs, including a cracked transom and a slow leak fix. We also installed new gauges for speed and fuel, and had a new cover made for her. The smaller dinghy got a good cleaning, and both engines were serviced.
