Frank Coles is a master mariner and a former maritime lawyer with over 40 years of experience in the maritime industry. Having spent 12 years at sea, Frank is no stranger to the world of ships, boats, and navigation. He holds a Master Mariner Unlimited tonnage qualification and has worked on a variety of vessels, including tankers, LNG ships, containers, bulk carriers, reefers, and even nuclear fuel ships.
After his time at sea, Frank returned to school and qualified as a lawyer, practicing in London and Hong Kong. His extensive legal background led him to move into shipping operations, and he eventually transitioned to leadership roles in maritime technology companies, serving as CEO of several companies focused on satellite communications, operational software, and navigation technology.
Frank’s leadership experience is extensive—he managed a ship management company in Hong Kong that operated over 250 ships. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Frank has visited over 110 countries and lived on four continents, which has further fueled his passion for travel and exploration.
Now retired, Frank offers consulting services to private equity firms and startups, helping them navigate maritime acquisitions and offering insights into the maritime technology space. He is also a passionate advocate for seafarers' rights, regularly speaking out on issues that affect the lives of those working at sea.
As he and Leslie embark on this new chapter of their lives aboard the Nordhavn 62, Kariwa, Frank continues to bring his wealth of experience and expertise to every aspect of their journey, providing valuable insights into the maritime world.
