We spent 2 nights in Thomas Bay, it was calm and protected from the northerly winds. We left early, like 4:35am early and headed over to Bairds Glacier which is on the northern end of Thomas Bay. The scenery was beautiful and the temperature dropped quite a few degrees as we approached the drying flats at the head of the fjord. We lasso'ed a bergie bit to gather the obligatory glacier ice for tonight cocktails, that was a bit of a laugh. Imagine trying to position a 120 tonne boat next to a 3ft long piece of ice. We tried to use the capstan to bring it on board but gave that up because it was just too heavy so we resorted to using a hammer to break some bits off into a bucket. Come back later to find out if our cocktails were spectacularly better than normal.
Next we headed over to Cannery cove, a journey of 59 miles. Cannery cove is even more beautiful than Thomas Bay was. Sadly, another boat beat us to the prime spot but its beautiful even if we have to share. Now for a few boat jobs before relaxing for the evening.
